Dear Parents:

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year at Our Lady of the Assumption School.  The year promises to be terrific. 

We welcome new students, families and staff to the school.  Also, we welcome a PSIII student from the U of L.  Ms. Hill will be joining Mr. Parr’s class.  Our classes are currently at a good size. In a few cases, class sizes are larger due to tight budgets.  Please note that we may have to adjust some class assignments as a result of new enrolments and adjust numbers of students in different grades.  If we see a significant increase in enrolment from last year we may be able to increase our staff at the school.  We will make these adjustments as quickly as possible to minimize the effect on students.

Provided is our September calendar (see the back of this letter). Please note some important events in September:

·         A meeting for all parents of students participating in our Grade 6 Outdoor Education trip is on Wednesday, September 11^th at 7 pm

·         A Blessing for New Families is at 5 pm and  School Council Family BBQ/Meet the Teacher Night is at 5:30 pm on September 12^th

·         Opening Mass is at Assumption Church on September 13^th at 1 pm

·         Our first School Council meeting is on Tuesday, September 25^th at 6:30 pm.

Thank you to all the parents that participated in our ThoughtStream activity last June.  I will be sharing the results with School Council soon.  Your ideas will help us formulate our Continuous Improvement Plan.

This summer I did some reading about transformation in education.  We are entering a very exciting time.  A key focus of transformation is collaboratively meeting the needs of ALL learners.  Our staff is excited about trying some new teaching methodologies and programs.
