Teacher Advisor periods will be held every Tuesday and Thursday. During these times, teachers will help students plan and prepare for their futures. Students will do career inventories and map out a high school and post secondary plan. Through Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews students will share their plan with their parents and throughout the year the plan will be updated as students complete their course work. The Teacher Advisor will closely monitor student progress through the year, and indeed throughout high school, to watch for improvement or a drop in academic performance. The Teacher Advisor will call you in the fall to touch base to stay in contact with you if your student’s performance starts to lag. However, you know your student better than anyone so we encourage you to look on Students Achieve on a regular basis and contact the Teacher Advisor if you feel your student is not performing to capability. Students will be grouped in TA by Grade – Eleven Teacher Advisors will be placed with Grade 10 students, eleven TA’s will be placed with Grade 11 students, and eleven TA’s will be placed with Grade 12 students. The needs of each grade level are different and the work students will complete in TA will change as they progress through high school. The students will remain with the same TA for all three years of high school so as to maintain close contact between teacher, parent, and student. The primary reason for implementing TA in this way is to promote a sense of community and belonging for all students and to help them continue to prepare for their future. We know with your support and encouragement, this can be an effective tool in realizing the potential of all students in this school.
