School Starting Age

A child must be enrolled in Grade 1 if he/she has reached the age of 6 years on or before the school opening date.  To start Grade 1 a child must be six years of age on or before December 31st of the current school year; to start Kindergarten a child must be 5 years of age on or before December 31st of the current school year.

Early Learning (Formally known as "Pre-Kindergarten")

Early Learning is designed to meet the needs of children aged 3 and 4 years old.

Early Learning programs will be offered in some schools. Children will have access to the school library, gymnasium, playground facilities and all other resources in these schools. Children will engage in play-based and hands-on, experiential learning activities designed to meet individual needs. Opportunities to develop independence and skills in making decisions, cooperating with others and problem solving will be integrated into all aspects of the program.

Children with special needs will be full participants in the program, playing and learning along with typically developing children. Community services will be accessed to design individual programs and qualified teaching assistants will support the children in their learning.

Meaningful parental involvement will be encouraged through direct participation in the program.

Here's How to Register

Visit or contact your neighborhood Catholic school between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on school days. Although registration is ongoing up to the first day of school, pre-registration helps the school plan more effectively for the upcoming school year.

To register your child, you will need to bring his/her birth certificate, immunization record.

Parents are reminded to contact their local Community Health Office to arrange for their children’s pre-school immunization boosters.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL STUDENTS WHO ARE NEW TO THE SCHOOL MUST PRESENT A BIRTH CERTIFICATE UPON REGISTRATION.
