Our School
Community Connections

At Ecole St. Mary School, we are fortunate to have a number of community organizations supporting us in what we are doing for our children.

THE  LETHBRIDGE  KIWANIS  CLUB  OF  GREEN  ACRES

For the past several years, The Lethbridge Kiwanis Club of Green Acres (http://www.lethbridgekiwanis.org) has adopted our school as a special project. They generously donate food to provide breakfast and lunch for those students whose families are not able to do so. They also donate granola bars and juice boxes so that all of the students writing the Provincial Achievement Tests can have a snack before the examinations.

In past years, the Kiwanis Club has donated money toward our Grade Six field trip to the Royal Tyrrell Museum, so that students whose families could not afford to pay would still be able to attend.

Just before the start of Lent, the members of the Kiwanis Club, together with members of our School Council, cook and serve pancakes for a Shrove Tuesday lunch for all the students and staff. Their smiling faces show their delight in the good work they are doing, and we appreciate having them with us.

Last year, these kind and generous community-minded citizens bought us a brand new stove for our new canteen. What a huge gift! We are so grateful!

May God bless all of you, and the work you do for His precious children.

LETHBRIDGE  CHAMBER  OF  COMMERCE

For the last three years, the Business and Education Committee of the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce  (www.lethbridgechamber.com), along with school and business partners, has sponsored the "Adopting a Citizen of Tomorrow" award program for city schools.

The intent of the recognition program is to reward citizenship and encourage positive social skills. Deserving students are chosen on the bases of such criteria as positive attitude, good attendance, acts of citizenship, and good effort.

Our business sponsors have each donated $100.00 per year, for ten awards of ten dollars (one per month) to students in Grades 4, 5 and 6.

The following businesses are our sponsors:

                    Grade 4:   Servus Credit Union  ( www.communitysavings.ca)

Grade 5:   Charlton and Hill Ltd.

                    Grade 6:   EBA Engineering  (www.eba.ca)

Our sincere thanks go out to all of our sponsors. Your generosity will help to reinforce values of good citizenship in our students, and the future will be brighter as a result.

WARD  BROTHERS  CONSTRUCTION,  LTD.

Ward Brothers Construction, Ltd. has donated $400.00 to our school to be used for Perfect Attendance Awards. Therefore, we are able to draw the names of two students each month from among those who have been present and on time every day for the previous month. These students are presented with awards of twenty dollars each. The awards provide an incentive for students to attend all the time, and reward those who do so.

BIG BROTHERS / BIG SISTERS

Starting in September 2011 our school entered a partnership with Catholic Central High School and Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Lethbridge to create a mentorship program. 15 students in grades 4, 5 and 6 were partnered with high school students and particiapted in a variety of relationship building activities. The sessions are held over a 16 week period during the lunch hour.  Many of our students benefit from this program as they are able to develop positive relationships with older students. The program leaders prepared meals for the students and engaged them in many fun and interesting activities.
