The goal of the C.A.R.E. Campus Program is to provide opportunities for growth in positive behaviour choices, to allow for optimum learning in a small group setting, and to facilitate transitioning to an appropriate traditional or alternative educational placement.
This goal is achieved through the teaching and practice of character building skills, behavioural skills, and life and social skills, which are practiced throughout academic and community based activities.
Program Overview
The C.A.R.E. Campus Program, located at St. Francis Junior High School, will focus on meeting the needs of twelve to sixteen year old students who have been identified as being at risk, as well as youth with challenging behaviours and/or emotional needs. The program is staffed by a teacher, educational assistants, and a Child and Youth Care Worker. Extensive partnerships with community agencies will extend the supports available to students.
The C.A.R.E. Campus Program consists of three components - behaviour, academic and family partnership services. Behavioural training is presented to the students with specific skills in areas of pro-social skills, anger management, problem solving, friendship, character building and positive classroom skills.
Academics in the C.A.R.E. Campus Program follow the Alberta Education Program of Studies. The student's program is planned and implemented to meet each student's needs. Both academic and behavioural goals are established with the student. These goals are modified and adapted as necessary. Staff will facilitate open and on-going communication between school and home.
