After a dearth of opportunities to perform over the last three years due to COVID, a large contingency of Holy Spirit Catholic School Division’s students and staff gathered on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the Catholic Central High School East Gym to share their artistic talents with one another.

Arise & Shine Art Walk The art walk and concert was well attended by families and audience members both in-person and online, and proved to be an amazing display of the talents of staff and students from Catholic Central High School, Ecole St. Mary, Father Leonard Van Tighem School, St. Francis Junior High School, St. Joseph School (Coaldale), St. Patrick Fine Arts School, and St. Paul School.

“We are really seeing a renewal in the fine arts after the events of the past 3 years,” states Danielle Christensen, a Catholic Central High Music Teacher and one of the event’s primary organizers. “It felt really fitting to celebrate this renewal by coming together in spiritual unity and relationship.”

Aligning with the division’s Faith Plan, the event’s name - “Arise & Shine” - was drawn from the scripture of Isaiah: ‘Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.’ (Isaiah 60:1)

Superintendent Ken Sampson notes how appropriate and wonderful it was to see the students and staff of the school division live out the precise intent of this scripture. “This was just a really wonderful evening,” says Sampson. “Seeing our students and staff perform and shine, serving as a great source of light in our division and our community. It simply reminds us all of how blessed we all are.”

All of the proceeds of the Arise & Shine Concert and Art-Walk will all be used to support the Santa’s Anonymous project. Those wishing to see the online version of the concert are invited to contact the school division to request access.
