On May 16, 2023, Lethbridge City Council Tuesday voted unanimously in favour to approve the implementation of harmonized school and playground zones. For more information, please see the City of Lethbridge’s release, “Safety top priority as Council approves speed zone harmonization.”
This change will come into effect for the 2023/2024 school year and will see all current playground and school zones have a cohesive 30 km/hr speed limit from 7:30 am to 9:00 p.m. every day of the year.
The school division agrees that this decision will make the traffic laws easier for motorists to remember, as well as ensure the safety of all children accessing school and city playgrounds.
