As you are likely aware, The Right Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on September 13, 2022 that Monday, September 19th, 2022 would be a National Day of Mourning to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. While this is a holiday for federally employed staff, it is not considered a national holiday.
On September 14, 2022, the Government of Alberta further announced that, in solemn recognition of Her late Majesty, September 19, 2022 will also be a Provincial Day of Mourning. Employers are encouraged to make accommodations for employees to mark the occasion of Her late Majesty’s funeral and schools are encouraged to offer opportunities for students to take part in the day of mourning.
In keeping with these announcements, the schools within Holy Spirit Catholic School Division will remain open on Monday, September 19, 2022. Students and staff will be encouraged to commemorate the life of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history, who made 22 official visits to Canada during her 70-year reign.
In the meantime, please join us in prayer to recognize and honour the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II:
Gracious God,
Welcome into your divine presence your humble servant Queen Elizabeth II.
We give thanks for her life of dignity and grace, her faith, and her dedication to duty.
Comfort those who mourn her passing and may her example continue to inspire us.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
