On Monday, April 8, 2024, between the hours of 11:48am and 1:38pm, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Lethbridge and across southern Alberta.

Due to the fact that the sun is never completely blocked out during a partial solar eclipse, as is the case with a total solar eclipse, it is never safe to look directly at without proper eye protection.

During this event, the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division has asked all principals, schools and staff to keep students indoors. This includes remaining at school for an indoor lunch and avoiding windows that face outside.

We are urging parents to speak with their children about the dangers of looking directly at the sun during an eclipse and the damage that it can cause their eyes. Additional safety information can be found on NASA's website:  https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/

For any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to your school directly.
