It is with tremendous excitement that I announce the following administrative positions have been filled, effective for the 2020/2021 school year.

Daniel Vanden Dungen – Associate Principal of St. Mary’s School (Taber)
Mr. Vanden Dungen comes with 28 years of diverse educational experience. Currently the principal at the Mennonite Alternate Program in Vauxhall, Dan has served Horizon School Division for the past 26 years. His experience and extensive education, having completing his Masters of Education in Inclusive Education and Neuroscience from the University of Lethbridge, make him a leader in the promotion of inclusive learning environments and culturally responsive teaching. A faith-filled gentleman, Daniel and his family shared their time and talents with their parish community of St. Joseph in Vauxhall for over 25 years, until their recent relocation to Lethbridge where they have since become members of St. Martha Parish.

Mark Wynder – Associate Principal of St. Michael’s School (Pincher Creek)
Mr. Wynder has served the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division since 2007, gaining a variety of teaching experiences at Catholic Central High School, the Centre for Adolescent Responsibility Education (CARE), the Trinity Learning Centre (TLC), and, for the past six (6) years, St. Michael’s School in Pincher Creek, where he has taught high school Math, Science, and Religious Education. Accompanying his experience, Mark completed his Masters in Religious Education from Newman Theological College in Edmonton in 2017. He continues to serve the St. Michael's School community as an active and faith-filled educator. Not only does he give of his time and talents by coaching volleyball and badminton, but he also provides spiritual leadership by directing music for school Masses and facilitating staff and student religious retreats.

Lise Schmidt – Temporary Associate Principal of Catholic Central High School (Lethbridge)
As you likely know, Mrs. Devon Dempsey is expecting and will be taking her maternity leave over the 2020/2021 school year. To assist the school during her absence, we feel most fortunate that retired teacher and administrator, Mrs. Lise Schmidt, has agreed to serve as Temporary Associate Principal during the 2020/2021 school year. Mrs. Schmidt brings with her a wealth of experience and is already immersed in the CCH school community, having been teaching French Language Arts up until the end of the third quarter.

Please join me in congratulations and prayer for all!

Kind regards,
Ken Sampson, Superintendent of Schools
