Dear families and staff of Holy Spirit Catholic School Division,

As you are likely aware, on November 24, 2020 the Government of Alberta announced new targeted health measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. Division administration is carefully reviewing the measures and will ensure all of our schools follow the new requirements.

Below is some preliminary information for families. Specific information from your child’s school will be forthcoming.

For Grades 7 to 12 Students:

  • Starting November 30, 2020 students will conduct their studies from home. This will continue from Monday, November 30, 2020 until December 18, 2020, and again from January 4, 2021 until January 8, 2021.
  • There will still be no classes during the Christmas break from Saturday, December 19, 2020 to Sunday, January 3, 2021.
  • In-person learning is expected to resume on Monday, January 11, 2021.
  • Attendance is mandatory for all students and will be recorded by each teacher. Curricular outcomes will continue to be addressed and students will be regularly assessed by teachers.

For current At-Home Learning Program Students:

  • Students who are already enrolled in the Holy Spirit At-Home Learning program will continue with their regular schedule/timetable.
  • There will be no classes during the Christmas break from Saturday, December 19, 2020 to Sunday, January 3, 2021.
  • At-Home Learning classes will resume on Monday, January 4, 2021.

In addition:

  • Diploma exams are optional for the rest of the school year. Students and families can choose to write an exam or receive an exemption for the January, April, June and August 2021 exams.

Thank you to everyone who continues to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19 by following all public health measures: staying home if sick, isolating when required, physically distancing, wearing a mask, and regularly washing/sanitizing your hands. Please keep monitoring for any signs any or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Screening Questionnaire and, if you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

In the meantime, please join our community in prayer - for our collective health and safety during these uncertain times.

God Bless,
Ken Sampson, Superintendent of Schools
