Catholic schools are an important and vibrant part of publicly funded education in Alberta. Each year, we celebrate the gift of Catholic Education in our province. The theme, "Anchored in Christ, Beacon of Hope” is one which we have been journeying with all year in Alberta.
As always, Catholic Education in Alberta is well supported by our Catholic Bishops of Alberta and the Northwest Territories who have provided a letter for Catholic Education Week which can be found HERE.
Catholic Education Sunday
We also look forward to commemorating Catholic Education Sunday on Sunday, May 10, 2026 where you can join us in a day of faith, dialogue, and dedication to Catholic education. Your attendance and contributions will be key to shaping its future and affirming its vital role in our community and the wider world.. Let us be grateful that we live in a place that encourages religious freedom and the ability to educate our children the Catholic faith! Don’t forget to use the hashtags #BlueforCatholicEd and #IBelieveinCatholicEd when sharing your posts on social media.
Celebrating Catholic Education in Our Schools
In The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division, we have been creating videos for each weekday of Catholic Education Week. These videos focus on the 5 Marks of a Catholic School and feature members of our Holy Spirit Catholic School Division family, each of whom play an important role in our walk together in Catholic Education. Each day we focus on one of the following five virtues: Hope, Justice, Love, Faith and Self-Control.
Day 1 - St. John Paul II - Hope

Day 2 - St. John Bosco - Justice

As the recent letter from our Bishops reminds us, Catholic education is a "great gift entrusted to the Church," flowing directly from the heart of God’s loving providence. At the very center of our schools stands the person of Jesus Christ, our hope and our anchor, who calls every student into a personal and transforming relationship with Himself.
In a world of uncertainty, we are reminded that our hope is not merely optimism, but is "sure and steadfast" because it is rooted in Him.
Thank you to our students, staff, and parishes for your dedicated partnership in this sacred mission. Your fidelity and love allow Holy Spirit to remain a radiant witness in our community—a true beacon of hope where Christ is known and proclaimed with joy.
May God richly bless you as we move forward together, for as the Letter to the Hebrews inspires us:
"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." (Hebrews 6:19)
