On June 17, 2026, the Town of Taber celebrated the incredible young people in their surrounding community who consistently go above and beyond, dedicating their time to service and leadership. The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division is immensely proud to announce that two of our outstanding students, McKayla Paul and Shailyn Kromm, were recognized at this year's APEX Youth Awards.
McKayla Paul – Grade 12 at St. Mary’s School
McKayla was nominated this year for her exceptional ability to balance a rigorous academic schedule, consisting of nine grade-level courses alongside two college-level courses, while remaining deeply committed to outside volunteer and service roles.
As a natural role model, McKayla practices the leadership skills she teaches, always creating engaging and enjoyable environments for her peers. For the past two years, she has managed the St. Mary’s School Instagram page, designing beautiful and impactful promotional materials for the school community. Beyond her school walls, McKayla has shown immense compassion by dedicating her time to supporting a local senior citizen, helping her transition to a new facility, and continuing to visit her between work shifts and classes.
Shailyn Kromm – Grade 10 at St. Mary’s School
Shailyn is driven by her passions for rugby, the Air Cadets, academic excellence, and her Catholic faith.
During her impressive cadet career, Shailyn has already earned numerous accolades, including awards for Academic Achievement, Bandsmen, Cadet Choice, Commanding Officer’s Choice, Esprit de Corps, and Top First-Year Cadet. Shailyn proudly shares her love for God through her active involvement at St. Augustine Parish, where she volunteers at community dinners and participates in the Coldest Night of the Year walk. Additionally, she generously spends her spare time visiting seniors at Clearview Lodge, participating in poppy sales, ringing bells for the Salvation Army Christmas campaign, and assisting with highway clean-up efforts, while maintaining her Honour Role academic standing.
The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division extends its heartfelt congratulations to McKayla and Shailyn for their outstanding contributions to the Taber community. Your selflessness, leadership, and dedication embody the very best of our student body. Amazing work, and congratulations on your APEX Youth Award nominations!
