Response to COVID

On July 21, 2020, Premier Jason Kenney and Minister of Education, Adriana LaGrange, jointly announced that schools in Alberta would reopen in September in a Scenario 1 Mode - ‘near normal’ operations with health measures in place in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in schools.

Further to this, on August 4, 2020, Minister LaGrange and Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the province's Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced that mask use for students in grades 4 to 12, as well as all school staff, will be mandatory when school returns for the 2020-21 school year. Staff will be required to wear masks in all settings where physical distancing cannot be maintained, and students will be required to wear them in all shared and common areas, such as hallways and on buses. Mask use for kindergarten to grade 3 students will continue to be optional. The government has also committed to providing two (2) reusable masks per person to assist with this requirement. More information about this announcement can be found on the Alberta Government’s website.

Given this information, plans remain underway for Holy Spirit Catholic School Division to have students return to the classroom on September 1, 2020.  The following documents have been developed and shared to assist staff and families in knowing more about our plans and preparations for the upcoming school year:

The division is also aware that one of our most significant challenges will be how to provide transportation in a way that ensures the safety of our students.  For more information about the transportation changes planned for 2020/2021, please see the Superintendent's June 26, 2020 letter to parents/guardians.

Lastly, the division has asked all Holy Spirit parents/guardians to fill in this short survey for each student by (DEADLINE EXTENDED) Sunday, August 16, 2020 at midnight.  This information is critical in helping schools structure learning in the best way possible.
